Muncie, IN, known as the “Friendly City”, is the birthplace of iconic American classics such as Bob Ross’s “The Joy Of Painting” weekly show, Ball Corporation mason jars, and the beloved Garfield comic strip. When it comes to visiting Muncie, there’s plenty to see and do, especially if you’re hungry. There are so many delicious cuisines available nowadays, it’s hard to pick. We wanted to share some of the best Chinese food around, because what’s more American than Chinese food?

Dumpling House

True to their name, Dumpling House has several delicious offerings of pan-fried and steamed dumplings. There are 16 pieces per order of boiled dumplings and 14 pieces per pan-fried order, which is plenty to go around. Fried until they are golden brown with an irresistible, juicy bite, these are a popular choice for many. They also offer great vegetarian options as well as a number of delicious combination plates. With such an expansive menu, there’s surely something here for everyone.

Asian Kitchen

Asian Kitchen is renowned for its generous portion sizes. This family-owned restaurant has many regulars who rave about the reasonable prices and fresh ingredients cooked to order. This also might be the only place that has chicken on a stick, and it’s a popular favorite. Carry-out service from this restaurant is typically quick and their deliveries arrive steaming hot. For those counting their calories, Asian Kitchen also has lots of fresh and healthy options in their Diet Menu.

First Wok

Some of the most delicious Chinese food can be found in strip malls. They have long held hidden gems that have been recently popularized in various foodie publications. First Wok is no exception. Their chicken wings in General Tso’s sauce is a clever and appetizing take on the staple dish, and their massive list of combination plates means you’ll be coming back for more. Do note that this casual eatery is closed on Mondays.

Bamboo House Buffet

This unassuming eatery located in Chesterfield deserves a spot on our list for its enjoyable buffet. While many buffets typically offer more options, Bamboo House does its classics well. Patrons love the freshly made egg rolls. Owners and staff are friendly, and the prices are more than reasonable. Bamboo House doesn’t have a strong internet presence, and it feels very much like a well-kept secret.

Lantern House Asian Bistro

For more upscale Asian fare, Lantern House Asian Bistro is located just 30 minutes away in Anderson. Their focus is on serving modern takes on classic Chinese dishes in a sleek, intimate space. Along with Dim Sum, this restaurant also offers sushi rolls and crave-able desserts. If you’re looking for a date night near Muncie, this is a great option.
