At a Glance: The 2023 Toyota Tacoma

Considered one of Toyota’s classics, the Tacoma has been a staple of the brand since its first-generation debut back in 1995. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is the result of tireless effort and constant improvements that have spanned 28 years and three generations, and the specs this ride offers tell the whole story. This popular pickup truck that has managed to outsell mid-sized class rivals and full-sized trucks alike is available now at your favorite local Toyota dealer.

Drive and Capabilities

The Tacoma’s base model SR comes equipped with a 2.7-liter DOHC four-cylinder 16-valve VVT-i engine that sees 159 horsepower at 5,200 RPM and 180 lb-ft of torque at 3,800 RPM. The transmission the engine is paired to is a six-speed Electronically Controlled auto transmission with intelligence, which means it will automatically match the engine revs to the shifting for a smoother experience. The Tacoma SR has a rear-wheel drivetrain with an Automatic Limited-Slip Differential system.

The front suspension is a coil-spring double wishbone type and has an integrated stabilizer bar. The rear suspension is a leaf spring and has a stabilizer bar as well. The rear suspension also has staggered gas shock absorbers mounted to the outboard. The brakes are power-assisted and the front disc brakes are ventilated. The rear brakes are drum-style with a tandem booster as well as Toyota’s own Star Safety System™.

Star Safety™

This is ​Toyota’s ​patented stability program hub that commands several other programs. Your Vehicle Stability Control, Anti-Lock Brakes, Traction Control, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Smart Stop Technology®, and Brake Assist ​can all be found within this safety system. These programs all work in tandem to keep control ​in your hands and all four wheels where they should be, ​no matter the terrain.

Cabin Multimedia

You can access your media settings through the seven-inch touchscreen on the center console. You can connect your Android or Apple smartphone and seamlessly play your music through the cabin’s six surrounding speakers. You can also stream your music through the Tacoma’s Bluetooth® connectivity capabilities.

Toyota Safety Sense™

This is ​Toyota’s own take on all the best ​vehicle safety and driver assistance features. Within this program are your ​Pre-Collision System, Pedestrian Detection, Cruise Control with Dynamic Radar technology, Automatic traffic-sensing High Beams, and Lane ​Departure Alert systems.
