Toyota has a long history of environmental activism and designing cars that are much more environmentally friendly. This month Toyota was quite pleased to announce that the company has sold more than 9 million hybrid models worldwide. Helping to mitigate the environmental effects of automobiles is a priority for Toyota. Based on the stance that eco-friendly vehicles can only truly have a significant positive impact if they are widely used, Toyota has endeavored to encourage the mass-market adoption of hybrid vehicles across the globe. As of the end of April 2016, Toyota is selling 33 hybrid passenger car models and one plug-in hybrid (PHV) model in more than 90 countries and regions. Toyota also estimates that its hybrid vehicles have saved approximately 25 million kiloliters of gasoline compared to the amount used by gasoline-powered vehicles in the same class.

But it’s not the promotion of hybrid vehicles that demonstrates the Toyota environmental commitment. Last year the company introduced its own environmental to-do list that will certainly please the environmentally conscious driver. The company outlined five priority issues – carbon, water, materials, biodiversity, and outreach in its environmental guide. Some of the company’s commitments include the planting of more than 130,000 trees at a Toyota facility in Indiana between 2008 and 2014. In 10 years, when these trees reach their peak, they will be capturing and storing 2,170 tons of CO2 from the air annually.

If these environmental milestones sound good to you, come learn more about the environmentally-friendly vehicles here at Toyota of Muncie.

1 Million Miles in a 2007 Toyota Tundra

Wednesday, May 18th, 2016

There’s an ugly rumor going around that modern cars are not built with the long haul of mileage in mind. People have an idea that manufacturers build a car to maybe get you through 150,000 miles before problems set in. But that’s not true and one less-than-10-year-old Toyota model has proven that in spades. A Louisiana man named Victor Sheppard just swapped out his 2007 Toyota Tundra after he racked up more than 1 million miles – yes, that’s right, more than 1 million miles in less than 10 years. Since purchasing the truck, Sheppard has been the sole owner and has put an average of 125,000 miles a year on the odometer, regularly driving long-haul trips from his home to North Dakota, Wyoming, and Virginia for his job. The truck still has its original engine, transmission, and paint job.

To keep that truck running, Sheppard has logged 117 dealership service visits over nine years, ranging from timing belt replacements, oil changes, and the manufacturer’s regularly scheduled check-ups.

That’s impressive.

Sheppard’s truck will be examined by Toyota engineers to see how the engine and transmission as well as other components and parts, such as the seats, have held up.

If you’re in the market for that kind of quality vehicle, visit Toyota of Muncie and take a look at the models we have here, including the all-new full-sized 2016 Toyota Tundra Four-Wheel Drive CrewMax SR5. The 2016 Toyota Tundra Four-Wheel Drive CrewMax SR5 can seat up to six people and provides excellent leg and headroom for passengers in all seat rows.

This is a great truck, but Sheppard was able to maintain his model by regular maintenance, which you too can do to ensure the condition of your car, truck, or SUV. Make sure you bring your new Toyota vehicle back to our Toyota service center, our team of trained technicians are here to take care of all your automotive needs.
