Toyota FCV-R Makes a Quiet Appearance at Detroit

Toyota basked in the glow of the spotlight at this year's Detroit auto show, there's no doubt about that. But amidst shining models like the NS4 plug-in hybrid concept and new Toyota Prius C, there was one concept that sat quietly in the shadow: the Toyota FCV-R.
Standing for Fuel Cell Vehicle -Reality (or Revolution), the hydrogen-powered FCV-R isn't new to the public eye; it was initially revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show back in November. But its second coming signifies that Toyota isn't abandoning its alternative fuel hopes anytime soon. In fact, the automaker promises consumers a fully-working, production-scale hydrogen vehicle by 2015.
How exactly will this model translate for consumers like you? While any sort of Toyota fuel-cell automobile will initially come at a high cost, something akin to the FCV-R has the power to save you big time at the pump. Actually, it would render gas guzzling completely non-existent. Not only that but think for a moment about how much electricity is constantly running in and out of our lives...quite a bit right? It only makes sense then that the future of mobility would depend on alternatively-fueled and electric models such as a FCV-R offspring.
